Spring 2011 | Project 1 - T Shirt

The T Shirt project is the first project in the 316L Apparel I lab. The students learn how to create patterns from basic blocks. Seam allowance and notches are added to this pattern then layout, pinning, and cutting follow. All seams and seam finishes are tested on samples before they begin sewing the final garment. The bulk of T Shirt sewing is done on a serger but sometimes we use a straight stitch machine with a ball point needle. As you look through the student's work, you can see that a variety of techniques have been used to create a unique surface decoration. Fabric painting, sequins, studs and cutouts backed with lace are a few examples. We are off to a good start and I'm looking forward to seeing their skills improve in the next project.
