Spring 2012 | Project 2 - Bias Skirt

The Bias Skirt project teaches the students about grain lines. The bias grain line adds stretch to a non stretch woven fabric and gives the fabric a nice drape as you can see here in the skirts the students made. They all began by choosing a pattern block and creating their own patterns with seam allowance and proper industry labeling. The next step was to layout and cut the fabric. This step took much longer than before since everyone had to take extra time checking that the pattern grain line was at a perfect 45 degree angle on the fabric before pinning and cutting. The sewing samples consisted of more advance seams such as the french seam and some new hem stitches such as the blind stitch. Overall they all did a good job and you can see a wide range of skirt designs and styles here. Please look through and click on each for a close up view.
