Spring 2010 | Project 4 - Bias Cut Skirt

The students have been working on zippers and fabrics that have a soft and slippery feel. This project, a bias cut skirt with an elastic waist, continued on with strengthening skills when using slippery fabric. The layout was tricky because this skirt must be cut properly to get the right drape. Students learned new seams including the french seam and a few hand hemming techniques. Each skirt had to include a ruffle, flounce of rosette (which is made from the ruffle or flounce). Working with bias cut fabrics is a challenge but everyone finished on time and the results are wonderful. The choice of fabrics and the placement of the ruffles and flounces are so creative. The storyboard shows the inspiration for this project and then each skirt is listed alphabetically. You can click on the photos to enlarge.
