Welcome students, parents, and friends to the showcase of students work in Apparel I - Fall 2010. The first project is to make a T-Shirt. Some might think this would be an easy task but there are many steps that go into making this garment from scratch. The students begin by creating a pattern from a block and adding seam allowance, notches, and standard industry pattern labeling. The next step is to layout knit fabric, pin patterns down and cut each piece. After this, the students work on samples to practice the seams they will be using on the shirt using sergers, cover stitch and standard sewing machines. Every student then made their shirt unique by adding a surface design treatment including fabric paints and dyes, bleach, and sewn buttons and trims which have made all the shirts fabulous. The students all learned valuable basic skills and gained some confidence which should help them get off to a quicker start on the next project. I'm pleased with the final results and look forward to seeing their next project.
